私の米国留学時代(1981-1986)はリチャード・ハーシュ教授の元で、現代美術や陶芸を学んだ。
彼は今でも、私が最も尊敬する偉大だ陶芸家だ。彼に学んだ学生は、世界中に点在しその多くが大学などで教鞭をとっている。
台湾国立台南藝術大学の張清淵教授もリチャード・ハーシュ教授に学んだ私の後輩でもある。
その縁によって彼とは兄弟のように仲が良く、
台南藝術大学の学生が金沢の私の工房で研修する制度も構築している。
ジョナサン ニビィは米国人だ。
ミネソタの大学で陶芸を卒業後、台湾国立台南藝術大学で張清淵教授に学び大学院を修了後に私の工房で学んでいる。
在学中の研修も含めると2年の滞在となる。彼の真摯な制作姿勢は、私の工房のスタッフ皆が認めるところだ。
昨日から、彼は工房内の労作を始めた。おそらく、自らの金沢の想い出のためだと思う。
「いつか、再び自らが戻ってきた時、自らの足跡が確認できる場所を創る」それが、
常に海外からのスタッフが去る時に、私が伝えること。
彼は、工房の生い茂った木々を切り始めた。また、工房内の小川に橋を作ってくれた。
秋になると彼は生まれたミネソタの大学で教鞭を取ることになっている。
彼は、偉大な陶芸家となるだろう。近い将来、彼の教えた学生が金沢の私の工房で学ぶ日も来ることだろう。
ジョナサン ニビィとの別れの日が近づいている。悲しいことではあるが、いい出会いだった証でもある。
そのように自らに言い聞かせることにしている。

I studied in Boston University by Professor Richard Hirsch.
even now, I respect him most.
Many students learned to him all over the world, and many of them are teaching at the university or institutions.
Professor Chang Ching Yuen of Taiwan national Tainan College of Arts is also learned by Professor Richard Hirsch.
By the edge, with him, it is close like a brother and is also building the system in which the student of his university is
given training in my studio of Kanazawa.
Jonathan Nibbe is an American.
He learns to Professor Chang Chin Yuen at the Tainan College of Arts after graduating from ceramic art in
the university of Minnesota and now he is learning in my studio.
His earnest work posture — the staff of my studio — everybody is just going to accept.
From yesterday, he began the laborious work in a studio.
Probably, I think that it is for his recollections of its Kanazawa.

If autumn comes, he is to take a teaching position at a university in Minnesota.
He will become a great ceramist.
In the near future, the day which his studenwhelmed to my studio of Kanazawa.
With Jonathan,the day of separation may come soon.
Although it is sad, it is also encounter good therefore. I persuades myself.
