今、日本の悪化をたどる経済状況の中で、工芸を基盤とする地場産業が低迷している。
私の住む石川県は、九谷焼、輪島塗、山中塗などの工芸が盛んな地域でもある。
縮小されていく消費の中で、どのような方向性を導き出すのか問われている。
石川県はその問題に取り組むべく、アメリカ ニューヨークデザインの専門家からの意見を求める施策を始めた。
学芸員であるラン•ラバスコ氏が招聘され、到着直後に私を訪れてくれた。
様々な意見交換を行ったが、問題はそんなに簡単なことではない。
変わらなければならないこと、そして変わらずにいなければならないこと、高度な判断が必要とされている。
ラン•ラバスコ氏の高い見識から、新たな取り組みが生まれていくことを期待したい。
ただし、私も当然のことだが、作家自身が必要とさされる作品を生み出していくことが必須条件などだが、、、、、、、
