プレストン•サンダースは15年前、ロチェスター工科大学より留学生として1年間滞在した。
同時期にクリス•ケリーは福井県越前村で研修したことがある。
彼らは、そのロチェスター工科大学でリチャード•ハーシュ教授のもとで陶芸を学び大学院を修了しており、
今は二人ともそれぞれの大学で教授を務めている。
そして毎年、学生を連れて金沢へやってくる。
私は、ロチェスター工科大学で客員教授なので、二人は教え子となる。
そして後輩でもある。なぜなら、1984年に私もリチャード•ハーシュ教授に学びボストン大学大学院を修了しているからだ。
リチャード•ハーシュ教授が私の留学時に話してくれたことがある。
「夢は、世界中で自らが教えた学生が、活躍すること。
彼らに招かれ、その学生に再び教えることができること」すばらしい夢であると思う。
現在、リチャード•ハーシュ教授は世界中にいる彼の学生達から招かれている。
私もその夢を共有している。
Preston Saunders stayed as a foreign student from Rochester
Institute of Technology for one year 15 years ago.
Christpher Kelly has received training in Echizen village,
Fukui for the same period. They learn ceramic art with Professor Richard Hirsch in the Rochester
Institute of Technology and complete a graduate school and they are professor now at each university.
And they come over to Kanazawa with their students every year.
Because I am a visiting professor in Rochester Institute of Technology,
two people become a student. And they are my junior fellow also.
Because I learned from Professor Richard Hirsch in 1984,
and it completed Boston University graduate school.
Professor Richard Hirsch has talked at the time of my studying Boston.
”As for the dream, the student whom oneself taught,
hope they become active artists in all over the world” “invited as them
what I can teach to their own students again is a splendid dream.”
Professor Richard Hirsch is invited now by his students many places in the world.I share the dream, too.
