大樋焼十代 (父) と次世代の歩み展～昇華された炎の美～

現代アートから観た「日本の茶道、工芸」 by 大樋年雄

日本の都市として金沢は注目され続けてきた独特の文化的風土が存在する。大樋焼は350年を超える伝統のもとに、
茶道のための茶碗を造り続けてきた。
1927年に生まれた十代大樋長左衞門は、茶陶だけに甘んじることなく現代美術としての作品をも発表し続けてきた。
その厳しい芸術姿勢によって日本国最高の栄誉である文化勲章受章者（石川県名誉県民•金沢市名誉市民）となっている。
1958年に生まれた大樋年雄は、ボストンユニバシティ大学院修士課程を修了し活動の場を海外にも広げながら、
新しい日本文化の担い手ともなっている。
現在、この父子は新しい金沢駅においてのアートプロジェクトに取り組んでいる。
初めての親子でのコラボレーションには、マスコミ各社が報じたこともあり大きな反響となっている。来年開業される北陸新幹線。
その時が、この父子の作品が完成する時でもある。
今回のニューヨークでの父子展は、近い将来、この両者の伝統の橋渡しの予感を抱かせる時となるであろう。
京都楽焼の唯一の脇窯としての大樋焼は、寛文六年(1666年)五代加賀藩主•前田綱紀候により仙叟(裏千家始祖)が茶道奉行として
金沢へ招聘された際、楽家四代•一入の高弟であった長左衞門が同道したことに始まります。
特徴は、轆轤をいっさい使わず手で捻りながらの成形や、箆で削る独特の制作過程にあります。
また、茶碗などをひとつずつ短時間で焼き上げ、窯から取り出し急冷するという独特の焼成は、
現在、世界に広まりRAKUと称される起因ともなっています。加賀藩に支えられた大樋焼は、明治維新後、数々の苦難を乗り越えながら、
日本茶道のもとに飴釉の特色ある稀有な陶芸として知られてきました。
大樋焼の魅力は、手捻りによる造形と赤松や炭を用いる独特の窯変焼成によることで、釉薬と土が炎とかかわり合い、
大樋焼特有の計算された技法が作品と相成っている点にあります。この昇華された魅力を可能にする為には作品形成にふさわしい、
最良の土を見つけることが必要でした。また、主要な土は当時金沢郊外の大樋の地によるもので、
初代長左衞門が数々の作品を残した事で大樋焼と称されることになりました。
伝統ある大樋焼に、現当主十代大樋長左衛門（日本美術工芸界唯一の存命の文化勲章受章者・文化功労者・日本芸術院会員
・石川県名誉県民・金沢市名誉市民）は、茶道美に添って、新たな表現を確立し、平成23年に平成天皇から最高の栄誉として
文化勲章に叙せられました。本展は十代大樋長左衛門の作品と長年海外でも活躍し、欧米の美術館やコレクターに作品が収集されている
大樋焼の後継者である大樋年雄氏（ボストンユニバシティー大学院修士過程修了・ロチェスター工科大学客員教授）の作品で構成され、
大樋焼の伝統と継承を踏まえた新たな現代への挑戦をご紹介します。

“Japanese Tea Ceremony and Crafts” from the perspective of Contemporary Art by Ohi Toshio

The Nippon Gallery is proud to present the exhibition of tea wares by Ohi Chozaemon X,
Recipient of the Order of Culture Merit, and his successor,
Ohi Toshio XI, Visiting Professor of Rochester Institute of Technology). “Ohi Yaki” originated in 1666 in a village
in Ishikawa Prefecture and was developed for use in the tea ceremony. Made of soft clay and fired at low
temperatures, Ohi pieces are prized for their beautiful shapes and luster. The Ohi method is to form the shape
by hand, curving off excess bits with a spatula without using a wheel. At the firing stage, the piece is glazed and
put into the kiln. Then the temperature is increased sharply within a short time, and the piece is taken out while
the glaze is melting to cool down rapidly. This method requires sudden temperature changes, so finding good clay
soil is important. The first Chozaemon found the most suitable soil in Ohi Village which is a suburb of Kanazawa.
The name Ohi came from the name of the place. Since then, this method has been handed down from generation to
geneartion as Ohi Yaki. Most Ohi Yaki is tea utensils among which tea bowls are most abundant. Its distinctive glaze
contrasts beautifully with the powdered green tea used in tea ceremony. At the exhibition, 17 pieces of
chadogu (tea wares) by Ohi Chozaemon X and Ohi Toshio XI, will be exhibited. Please don’t miss this rare opportunity.
