台南・烏山頭(うさんとう)ダムを建設し、台湾の開発に人生を捧げた八田與一(はったよいち・金沢市出身)は昭和17年(1942)5月8日が没した。
毎年、八田の命日には墓前祭が行なわれてきたが、先般、八田の銅像についてはたいへん残念な事件が起こってしまった。
今回は、頼清徳 台南市長、山野之義 金沢市長などをはじめとして多くの方々が参列し、新たな絆が深まった気がする。
私も金沢香林坊RCからの来賓として参加させて頂いたが、
台湾でそれだけ慕われている日本人がいたことに感謝しながら、手を合わさせて頂いた。
May 8, 1942 it is the Memorial Day of Hatta yoichi (was born in Kanazawa) which constructed Tainang Wushantou Dam
and offered a life to Taiwanese development.
Memorial service in front of his grave has been performed every year,
but recently, a very regrettable accident has happened about Hatta’s bronze statue.
This time, Tainang mayor William Lai and Kanazawa mayor Yukiyoshi Yamano ,
many persons are attracted and thought new bond deepened as the beginning.
I participated as a guest, also,
I was thankful that there was one Japanese by whom yearned for in Taiwan, then I was deeply praying.
