ニューヨークで行われている第19回日米陶芸展。このコンベを25年ほど前から審査してきた。
会場に入った瞬間、私の魂に何故か共鳴してきた作品があった。結果、その作品が最高賞となった。
受賞者は米国で活動する若き台湾人だった。
台湾には、張清淵という私の弟のような存在の作家がいる。
その彼が教えた学生が、今は指導者となって今回の受賞者に教えているそうなのだ。
時の流れに驚くばかりだ。考えてみれば私も64歳。当然のことなのかもしれない。
At NIPPON Club NYC
I have been judging the Japan-U.S. Ceramic Competition in New York for 25 years.
The moment I entered the exhibition room there was a work that resonated with my soul.
As a result, that work was awarded the highest prize.
The winner was a young Taiwanese working in the United States.
In Taiwan, there is a artist named Chang Ching-yuan, who is like a younger brother to me.
The one student he taught is now professor and teaching to this young winner of this competition.
I am amazed at the passage of time. Come to think of it, I am 64 years old. Perhaps it is only natural.
